Biography

Magdelene Ong is a Singapore Patent Attorney and a Chartered UK Patent Attorney with more than 20 years of professional experience.

Prior to joining Cantab IP, she was a partner for 10 years in a leading global firm of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Over her many years in the profession, she has handled an extensive spectrum of technology including semiconductor devices and fabrication, telecommunications, computer software, electronic circuitry, mechanical systems, medical devices, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, materials, imaging systems, aquaculture, pest control, green technology, dental applications, data centre technology, antenna and radar systems, microfluidics, photonics, aviation applications, wireless communication and fuel cell technology.

Apart from drafting patent specifications and prosecuting applications, Magdelene also provides opinions on infringement and validity and advises on patentability issues. Magdelene also has experience overseeing and coordinating multi-jurisdictional disputes.

Conscientious and meticulous, Magdelene strives to achieve the best outcomes for her clients. A career highlight is successfully overturning a decision of the Registrar of Patents to disallow a correction request before the High Court of Singapore (Nippon Shinyaku v Registrar of Patents), the first such decision in Singapore.

Magdelene has also been listed as a ranked individual in the IAM Patent 1000 rankings and as an expert by Who’s Who Legal.

Having a keen interest in the profession, Magdelene is also an Executive Committee member of the Association of Singapore Patent Attorneys (ASPA), a position she has served in for more than a decade.
